I also sobbed in this book which I haven't done in a long time. Again this book made me think how fragile my way of like is. Just finished Empire right before reading so it was easy to remember the previous story line. " A compelling read of plague, war, politics, & Sci-fi all wrapped up together. There are interesting subplots and conspiracies. " Interesting thriller about an agenda by the president to shape the United States in the format of the Roman Empire.

" The stuff about Fox News and Christianity in general was pretty ridiculous but the plague stuff made it a fun read.

The science, drama, and action were all very well done. It got a little preachy about the role of Christianity, but I did enjoy how factually based it was. It was an excellent continuation of the first book. Cole quickly runs afoul of Torrent on the run, he and a few friends and allies seek proof of how Torrent orchestrated the political takeover that included assassinating a President and nearly starting a civil war. He has launched America into a get-tough, this-world-is-our-empire foreign policy stance.īut Captain Bartholomew Coleman, known as Cole to his friends and enemies alike, sees the danger Torrent poses to American democracy and the potential disasters involved in his foreign military adventures. In Hidden Empire, the sequel to Card's bestselling novel Empire, Averell Torrent has become President of the United States, with enormous political and popular support and, if people only realized it, a tight grip on the reins of both political parties.
